Schweinsteiger marks comeback with brace

15.07.2007

The 10,000 who turned out on Sunday to watch FC 07 Albstadt take on Bayern enjoyed one major advantage over the men out on the field: while Luca Toni and Co sweated away in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees centigrade, the fans were periodically "refreshed" by stewards brandishing high-pressure water hoses.

But despite the searing heat, the rigours of a week at the club's summer training camp in Donaueschingen, and the absence with minor injury of a number of first-choice stars, Ottmar Hitzfeld's men applied themselves with commendable vigour to defeat the county league side 13-0 and round off their stay in the Black Forest in some style.

Altintop shows the way

The home side, meeting Germany's most successful club in a match to mark their centenary year, maintained parity of sorts for the first 20 minutes, although Toni should really have opened the scoring from a couple of good chances during that time. The Italian World Cup winner hobbled from the field clutching a knee on the half-hour, and will undergo a medical in Munich on Monday. Zé Roberto came on in his place.

Hamit Altintop finally netted the long overdue opener from 18 yards on 31 minutes, before young reserve striker Sandro Wagner doubled the advantage after a fine solo run just two minutes later. Altintop volleyed a Goal of the Month contender from the edge of the box after 36 minutes, before Bastian Schweinsteiger made the half-time score 4-0.

First outing for Schweini in three months

The run-out marked Schweini's comeback after three months out with Lyme's disease. "He's taken a giant stride forward this week," Hitzfeld commented before kick-off. Lucio also made his first appearance since May after recovering from surgery to correct a hernia problem.

Hitzfeld introduced Philipp Lahm, Martin Demichelis, Daniel van Buyten and Michael Rensing for the second half, and only five minutes had elapsed after the restart before former Gladbach youth Marcell Jansen opened his account for Bayern to make the score 5-0. Wagner completed his brace on 57 minutes before Van Buyten added a quick-fire double (67, 72).

Zé brings up the round dozen

Demichelis added his name to the scoresheet with 15 minutes remaining, before Schweinsteiger showed the three-month lay-off had not robbed him of his talent as he powered a typically swerving drive into the net from fully 25 yards. Mats Hummels (80) and Zé Roberto (87) brought up the round dozen for the men in red, with the honour of notching the final goal falling to Demichelis, the Argentine completing a brace of his own two minutes from time.

FC 07 Albstadt 0-13 Bayern (H-T: 0-4)

Bayern Munich: Kahn (Rensing 46) - Celozzi, Lucio (Van Buyten 46), Hummels, Jansen - Sosa (Lahm 46), Ottl, Altintop (Demichelis 46), Schweinsteiger - Wagner, Toni (Zé Roberto 30)

Attendance: 10,200 (capacity)

Goals: 0-1 Altintop (31), 0-2 Wagner (33), 0-3 Altintop (36), 0-4 Schweinsteiger (37), 0-5 Jansen (50), 0-6 Wagner (57), 0-7 Van Buyten (67), 0-8 Van Buyten (72), 0-9 Demichelis (75), 0-10 Schweinsteiger (78), 0-11 Hummels (80), 0-12 Zé Roberto (87), 0-13 Demichelis (89)
