The Bayern Experience

Major FCB museum coming to Allianz Arena

31.08.2010

Dear members, dear fans!

A dream held by many of our fans will soon become reality: FC Bayern confirms it will open a club museum at the Allianz Arena. However, this will not be a conventional museum – it will be the Bayern Experience. We intend to create the world's best and most innovative exploration of a football club’s history and traditions.

The Bayern Experience at the Allianz Arena will stir the emotions, presenting our club’s success story from its foundation in 1900 to the present day, using audio visual material and exhibits illustrating the club’s cups and trophies, and the legends who played for it. Naturally, one major section will be dedicated to our fans and fan clubs.

Our plans are already well advanced, and the goal is to open the facility during the 2011-12 season. We will unveil further information about the Bayern Experience at November’s AGM.

However, this project cannot be realised without the help of our members and fans. So we’re asking for your support, especially in unearthing exhibits and artefacts to go on display at the facility. Each of these objects should have a historical value in relating and explaining the story of our club.

In Bayern’s 110-year history, certain items have been lost or mislaid. Partly due to changes of location and the effects of two World Wars, our archive is not complete – although there are also gaps relating to more modern times. Our Bayern Experience project team and Stuttgart-based exhibition specialists Ranger Design are looking for the following:

SHIRTS & BOOTS
Please only advise of original shirts worn by Bayern players! We’re especially keen to hear of shirts worn by the first championship-winning team in 1932, the cup-winning team of 1957, all European finals and other momentous matches. Or perhaps someone has a pair of boots worn by Gerd Müller in the 1970s?

TROPHIES & PENNANTS
Maybe you or your acquaintances own cups, trophies or medals won by Bayern, or a pennant as customarily exchanged by opposing captains before major matches? Pennants are often also issued on winning leagues, cups and tournaments. These would make ideal exhibits.

FOOTBALLS
The match ball from the 1932 German championship final? Or from the club’s earliest years? Or a European final? Or an autographed ball from the past? We’d also welcome Bayern-related items from stadiums, dressing rooms etc.

TICKETS & POSTERS
Match tickets from 1900 onwards, and later tickets from the club’s biggest matches. Posters announcing matches, celebrations or anniversaries from the early days onwards would be very welcome too.

DOCUMENTS
We are also looking for key documents marking milestones in the club’s history, including letters, archive material, books, newspaper articles, pictures, photo albums, films and audio recordings. Or perhaps you know an anecdote connected with Bayern which has never been officially recorded before?

FAN ITEMS
We plan to incorporate an important Walk of Fans section in the exhibition. For this, we’re looking for flags, badges, pins, texts and recordings of songs and chants, and any interesting and witty supporters’ items.

OTHER SPORTS
FC Bayern incorporates a total of eight sections, each specialising in a different sport. We’d be grateful for interesting and historic objects telling the story of the non-football side to the club. Naturally, this includes now-defunct sections such as rugby, skiing and ice hockey.

CURIOS
Grandma’s cellar, uncle’s cupboard, or your own attic or garage may yet hold fascinating objects for our Bayern Experience. A corner flag, a pre-war chair from the club’s head office, an artwork, Sepp Maier’s gloves from the first double-winning campaign in 1969… there’s no strict definition for these items, although naturally, each should come with a relevant story connecting it to Bayern.

Many past and current players and officials have already contributed superb items for our collection, and now we’re extending our request to you, our members and fans. You, or someone from your family or circle of friends, may possess an item which would enhance and augment our Bayern Experience.

If you have an item or advice for us to consider, please contact us by post or e-mail:

München Stadion GmbH
Erlebniswelt FC Bayern
Werner-Heisenberg-Allee 25

Please describe your item in detail, and send a photo, copy or scan if possible. We’d like to know how you came to own the item, the season or year it relates to, and how you know it is genuine. Please under no circumstances send items themselves unless we request you to do so.

Please include your address, e-mail address, and – most importantly – a phone number where we can reach you. We will respond to every letter and e-mail as quickly as we can, so we’d ask you to wait for us to reply to you. If your item could be of interest for the Bayern Experience, we will contact you to discuss the next steps.

On behalf of FC Bayern Munich, I would like to thank you warmly in advance for your support in this project. Rest assured that the Bayern Experience at the Allianz Arena will be another highlight in our club’s unique and glorious success story.

With warmest regards

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge
Chairman
FC Bayern München AG
