Munich, 3 January 2011: Luiz Gustavo has today signed for Bayern Munich. The 23-year-old Brazilian completed the final pre-transfer medical and other formalities on Monday morning. Following clearance for the deal from chief medical officer Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, Gustavo inked a four-and-a-half year contract binding him to Bayern until 30 June 2015.
“We’re extremely pleased that everything’s now finally settled,” commented FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. “Luiz Gustavo is the player we always wanted, and he’s make the Bayern team stronger.”
Luiz Gustavo, who is eligible to appear for Bayern in this season’s UEFA Champions League, has been assigned the squad number 30 at Bayern. The 1.86m (6ft 2 in) defensive and midfield all-rounder joined director of sport Christian Nerlinger for an 11.50 am flight to Doha in Qatar, where he will officially take up his duties with his new team tomorrow at the club’s winter training camp.
As part of the deal, 18-year-old Bayern defender David Alaba joins TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on loan for the rest of the current season, i.e. until 30 June 2011.
