Nerlinger: A truly impressive performance

17.03.2012

With the make-or-break phase of the season fast approaching, Bayern have gone on another goal spree, following up a tally of 14 in the last two home matches with a 6-0 triumph away to Hertha Berlin on Saturday. The FCB camp was a happy place afterwards, as Christian Nerlinger summed up: “If we keep playing with such focus and conviction, we’re certainly heading in a terrific direction."

Reaction to Hertha Berlin v Bayern:

Christian Nerlinger: “I'm really thrilled. That was a truly impressive performance from the very first second on. We played outstanding football on an extremely difficult surface. We have to carry on like that. If we can keep playing with such focus and conviction, we're certainly heading in a terrific direction."

Philipp Lahm: “You have to take your chances and make sure you score. That's what happened in the last two matches, and it's happened again today. It's obviously easy after that. In the last three matches, we've seen just how much attacking quality we have in the team. We can take apart almost every opposing team."

Jerome Boateng: “We started really well and scored three early goals. That meant we were confident and settled. We were careless for 15 minutes after that and Hertha had two or three good chances, but overall we can be very pleased with the match. We worked hard as a team in defence and attack."

Otto Rehhagel (Hertha BSC coach): “We never got to grips with the two wingers, Robben and Ribéry. I warned my players about that beforehand, and then we conceded the first goal very early. Then there was the penalty, and we caved in. We were inferior to our opponents throughout, and Bayern once again showed what an outstanding team they are. We made mistakes in defence which you can't afford to make. We have to put it behind us, and give 100 percent in the relegation battle we now find ourselves in."

Christian Lell (Hertha BSC): “We did everything wrong compared to our tactical plan. And Bayern did everything right, which they're capable of doing in any case. We knew Bayern like to score early goals, and they've scored them again. Once you're 3-0 down and those lads really get going, you don’t stand a chance."

Andreas Ottl (Hertha BSC): “There was a massive difference in class today. Obviously, our resistance was broken by the early goals. We actually had one or two good openings up front, but we were simply not good enough in defence. Bayern were always a step ahead of us today. When you're three goals down after 20 minutes, it's hard to keep going against such all-powerful opponents. We now have to get this negative result out of our heads as quickly as we can."
