New attendance record for Supercup

08.08.2012

Around 2,000 tickets remain unsold, but it is already certain that Sunday’s Supercup clash between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund will set a new attendance record for the fixture. The 69,000 capacity Allianz Arena is close to selling out, breaking the previous record attendance of 61,000, set last year in Gelsenkirchen for the Supercup showdown between Schalke and Dortmund. The remaining tickets go on general sale from midday on Sunday at the Allianz Arena West ticket booths.

The world is watching
Global interest in the German Supercup is also bigger than ever before. Compared to last season, some 10 percent more TV stations around the world will report live from the Allianz Arena on Sunday evening, announced German football league (DFL) CEO Holger Hieronymus. In total, the match will be shown by 199 TV stations around the world, “a remarkable number," Hieronymus continued. ZDF are showing the match on German free-to-air TV.

Weiner with the whistle
The match officials for Sunday's Supercup clash were also announced on Wednesday. Michael Weiner (Giessen) will take charge of the traditional curtain-raiser to the new season, assisted by Norbert Grudzinski and Frank Willenborg, and fourth official Thorsten Schriever.

Götze resumes BVB squad training
Four days ahead of the Supercup clash in Munich, Mario Götze has resumed the Dortmund squad training programme. The 20-year-old was restricted to individual training recently due to a bad attack of conjunctivitis. “Mario is back to 80 percent vision in the affected eye, like you'd have after a restless night – except that it doesn't get better during the day," quipped Borussia boss Jürgen Klopp. Two players were missing from the BVB workout on Wednesday, captain Sebastian Kehl (knee) and midfielder Ilkay Gündogan (earache).
